-The program:
You are looking for grip and performance on the slopes and you rarely leave the slopes, the slopes skis are made for you (less than 75 mm at the skate). You ski on the slopes in all snow conditions, and you do off-piste when the powder is there, choose a ski with an all-mountain program, versatile, or 50/50 (from 75 to 90 mm on the skate).
You are as soon as possible off the slopes, whatever the conditions, you are looking for lift and skiability on all terrains, choose a freeride ski ( from 90 to 120 mm at the base ).
You like to do jumps to enter tricks in 360 or rodeo, you often drag on the snowpark, you are looking for stable skis, tolerant in reception, and with pop to fly away, go to see side freestyle ski.
-The size of the skis:
It is chosen according to the program of the ski.
For slope skis, between 5 and 10 cm less than your height. For slalom skis (radius of 10 to 13 m), take the short ones (10 to 15 cm less than your height), while for giant skis (radius of 17 to 22 m), take them at your height.
For multipurpose skis, between 0 and 5 cm less than your size depending on your program more piste (-5cm) or freeride (to size).
For freeride skis, between 0 and + 10 cm depending on the desired lift. For the large fields of thick powder, provide the length and for maneuverability in technical corridors for example, reduce in size.
-the camber :
Since 3 years a new technology appeared: the reversed camber or rocker. Contrary to the classic camber which favours grip, the inverted camber favours ease of release and versatility in powder.
The geometry of the ski can be turned completely upside down and still the ski works and really floats on the powder. The reverse camber allows you to sink into the powder and you only need to make two turns to understand... that you need to relearn how to ski a little, be more one-piece, clear with your shoulders and upper body and be supported on both feet with a good stance.
After this small adjustment and after being aware of the shortcomings of this ski on the hard, you can start to feel how easily the skis turn, slash and go fast. Doing a turn in the powder on a traditional ski is a horror, but with an inverted camber, the ski has an unusual pivot and all your fakie and other switch lines will be easier. The surface of bearing capacity of the inverted camber is enormous and it is concentrated where the freestyler needs it: under the foot, thus facilitating the landings.
