You want to change your women's ski or snowboard jacket ?
Don't hesitate, this section is made for you!

Skiing or snowboarding requires warm jackets that are flexible, comfortable, waterproof and weatherproof. Eider, Millet and Volcom are among the most popular brands. You need a ski jacket that will protect you against the cold (thermal insulation), against external humidity (rain, snow) and that will also allow perspiration to escape naturally.

Some tips for a successful purchase of ski/snowboard jacket :

-The multilayer :

The great principle of multilayer, is to juggle with 3 layers of clothing to face all types of climates :

-layer 1: technical underwear to evacuate perspiration ( craft )

-layer 2: thicker layer to produce warmth ( Eider, Dare2b )

-layer 3 : protection from external climatic aggressions, rain, snow and wind ( Eider, Dare2b, Volcom, Burton, Billabong ).

-The functionality of the ski/snow jacket:

You must first define the use of your ski jacket. Do you need a very technical jacket for skiing whatever the weather? A jacket for snowboarding, freestyle or freeride? Or a jacket for a very periodic use on the slopes?

If you ski 1 week a year, mainly on sunny days, a waterproof jacket (see explanations below) will be sufficient (Eeko System, Dare2b, or Billabong) but less resistant in time than a membrane model (Eider or Volcom).

If you practice snowboarding, snow jackets are more specific. They have a wider cut to have a greater freedom of movement. The moments spent sitting in the snow do not alter the insulating capacity of your snow jacket.

For freestyle use, the jackets will be very similar to snowboard jackets.

For a freeride use, the jacket will have to be technical, with a performing and breathable membrane (Defender Eider membrane for example) to stay warm and dry whatever the conditions.

For a thermal gain without loss of ergonomics, you can associate a first layer with a technical Craft shirt (which evacuates perspiration).

-Protection against external humidity:

A fabric is by definition not waterproof, because woven. Indeed, the weaving, as fine as it is, leaves many gaps between the threads (just look at a fabric in front of the light of a lamp to realize it). To improve the fabric's ability to protect against bad weather, two techniques are used:

Water repellent treatment:

This consists of a superficial application of a water-repellent substance that lets water drops slide off. But this technique does not make the garment really waterproof. Indeed, when the fabric is subjected to too much water pressure, the water will eventually penetrate it. Moreover, these treatments do not stand up well to machine washing (after 3 or 4 washes, their effectiveness is generally quite greatly reduced). But you can retreat them with waterproofing sprays when necessary.

Most low and mid-range ski clothing is water-repellent. That said, a water-repellent fabric is sufficient for occasional use (1 week per year) of a ski suit.

Coatings or membranes:

The waterproofing is ensured by an independent membrane, called coating, which is a thin layer of plastic material applied between the layers of fabric. For sports use such as skiing or snowboarding, it is preferable to choose a coating or a breathable membrane such as GORTEX or DEFENDER (the membrane that equips all Eider products), which allows the evacuation of perspiration in the form of water vapor. These fabrics are much more resistant over time than water repellent treatments, and can be machine washed without affecting their waterproofing.

This process allows to have a very waterproof and breathable garment, but it can nevertheless remain permeable to water at the seams. On technical garments (Eider or Volcom for example), the seams are sealed by a thermo-adhesive strip. These are called "waterproof seams" or "thermobonded seams".
