The Burton brand started in 1977, at the same time as the creation of snowboarding.
And for good reason, it was Jack Burton, a true pioneer of snowboarding, who manufactured and developed the first snowboards on the market. In his barn, he developed his very first board, the Backhill. Without knowing it, he created the first snowboard company and factory in the world, Burton Snowboards.
Little by little he developed access to snowboarding in the resorts, which allowed him to start marketing his boards throughout the United States. But he soon realized that his boards were not suitable for the icy slopes of Vermont because they had no edges, so in 1983 he developed the Performer, a board with metal edges and a P Tex base.
In 1985 he opened offices in Austria to conquer Europe, then Australia and New Zealand, and the whole world discovered this new sport of snowboarding. He sponsored the world's best riders and developed the first "pro models": the P.J. and Craig Kelly's Mystery Air.
Since then, the Burton brand has continued to develop, accompanying the transformation of snowboarding, pushing its limits, innovating and helping riders make the most of their passion.
