Freestyle skiing: the Snow Concept selection

Welcome to the Freestyle section! Whether your favorite features are rails, the half-pipe, or big air, you’ll find everything you need here among the skis from K2, Blizzard, Nordica, Rossignol, Head, and Dynastar.

What is freestyle skiing?

Freestyle skiing is an acrobatic discipline of alpine skiing, characterized by performing tricks and jumps on specific features such as rails, boxes, kickers, or half-pipes. Often associated with a creative and urban culture, this sport takes place mainly in dedicated snowparks. It includes several disciplines, including slopestyle, half-pipe, big air, and ski cross.

Features of freestyle skis

Freestyle skis stand out thanks to several technical characteristics:

  • Twin-tip design: Allows skiing both forward and backward, making switch landings easier.
  • Flexibility: Softer flex for better maneuverability and shock absorption during landings.
  • Waist width: Usually between 80 and 95 mm, providing a good balance of stability and agility.
  • Rocker: Rocker at the tip and tail for easier spins and transitions.
  • Centered bindings: Positioned at the center of the ski for better balance when performing tricks.

Freestyle skiing disciplines

Freestyle skiing includes several disciplines, each with its own specificities:

  • Slopestyle: A sequence of tricks on various features (rails, boxes, kickers) along a course.
  • Half-pipe: Riding inside a snow-built half-pipe, performing aerial tricks on both walls.
  • Big air: Massive jumps on a large ramp, with complex aerial maneuvers.
  • Ski cross: A speed race on a course with bumps, banked turns, and jumps, featuring several skiers at once.

Choosing your freestyle skis

The choice of freestyle skis depends on several factors:

  • Type of practice: Park, backcountry, urban, etc.
  • Skier level: Beginner, intermediate, or expert.
  • Personal preferences: Flex, length, design, etc.

It is recommended to consult professionals or specialized guides to find the equipment that suits your needs.

Additional equipment

Freestyle skiing also requires protective equipment:

  • Helmet: Essential for protecting your head in case of falls.
  • Goggles: Protect your eyes from snow spray and UV rays.
  • Back protector: Recommended to absorb impacts on the back.
  • Reinforced clothing: Designed to withstand friction and impacts.
