In March 1991, during heavy snowfalls in the United States, Richard Woolcott and Tucker Hall experienced a life-changing snowboard road trip. Despite being laid off, Tucker joined his friends in Tahoe, California, for four days of intense riding in pristine snow. Richard extended his stay, pretending they were snowed in. This experience ignited a deep passion for powder snow.

Two weeks later, Richard left his job to fully dedicate himself to this passion. Together with Tucker, they decided to create a brand dedicated to snowboard, skate, and surf, funded by an initial $5,000 contribution from Richard’s father. The name: Volcom, and its logo, a stylized gemstone, quickly became icons.

Volcom embodies the spirit of a ""Youth Against Establishment"" generation. Born in a difficult social and economic context, the brand reflects the creativity and rebellion of snowboarders and skaters who were once marginalized.

In the beginning, management was artisanal: their offices were their bedrooms in California, and sales were modest. But passion took precedence over business. Since then, Volcom has conquered the world while retaining its rebellious DNA, driven by the culture of riding, art, music, and lifestyle.
