Dakine: The story in a few words
The origins of Dakine
Founded in 1979 in Haiku, on the island of Maui, Hawaii, by surfer Rob Kaplan, Dakine began by making accessories for surfing, notably more durable leashes to face the powerful waves of the region. The name ""Dakine"" comes from the Hawaiian creole ""da kine,"" meaning ""the best"" or ""top.""
Expansion and diversification
In 1986, the company moved its headquarters to Hood River, Oregon, a region popular for windsurfing and kitesurfing. This relocation allowed Dakine to develop products for other board sports such as snowboarding, skiing, skateboarding, and mountain biking.
